Evaluation of Arctic Sea Ice Drift Products Based on FY-3, HY-2, AMSR2, and SSMIS Radiometer Data

چکیده

Different radiometer sensors have different frequencies, spatial resolutions, and time which lead to inconsistencies in ice drift products retrieved by sensors. Based on the continuous maximum cross-correlation method, this paper, we used China’s FY-3 HY-2 satellite data generate sea products; further evaluated consistency between them from AMSR2 SSMIS data, could help future retrieval accuracies of more products. The results show that with good reliability can be obtained retrievals using 37 89 GHz channels bright temperature data. Compared buoy root mean square errors (RMSEs) product (at an interval 6 days) were 1.40 cm/s 7.31° for speed direction, respectively, relative (REs) 5.78% 6.44%, respectively. RMSEs 0.77 6.49° REs 4.38% 9.23%, Moreover, comparisons vectors derived satellites showed quantitative agreement.

Comparison between AMSR2 Sea Ice Concentration Products and Pseudo-Ship Observations of the Arctic and Antarctic Sea Ice Edge on Cloud-Free Days

In recent years, much attention has been paid to the behavior of passive microwave sea ice concentration (SIC) products for marginal ice zones. Based on the definition of ice edges from ship observations, we identified pseudo-ship observations (PSO) and generated PSO ice edges from twelve cloud-free moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) images. Two SIC products of the advanced m...

An assessment of Sea Ice Extent Retrieval Based on HY-2A Scatterometer Data Using Other Satellite Products

A sea ice extent retrieval algorithm over the polar area based on scatterometer data of HY-2A satellite has been established. Four parameters are used for distinguishing between sea ice and ocean with Fisher’s linear discriminant analysis method. The method is used to generate polar sea ice extent maps of the Arctic and Antarctic regions of the full 2013-2014 from the scatterometer aboard HY-2A...

Multiyear Arctic Ice Classification Using ASCAT and SSMIS

The concentration, type, and extent of sea ice in the Arctic can be estimated based on measurements from satellite active microwave sensors, passive microwave sensors, or both. Here, data from the Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT) and the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) are employed to broadly classify Arctic sea ice type as first-year (FY) or multiyear (MY). Combining data from bo...

Polar Sea Ice Monitoring Using HY-2A Scatterometer Measurements

A sea ice detection algorithm based on Fisher’s linear discriminant analysis is developed to segment sea ice and open water for the Ku-band scatterometer onboard the China’s Hai Yang 2A Satellite (HY-2A/SCAT). Residual classification errors are reduced through image erosion/dilation techniques and sea ice growth/retreat constraint methods. The arctic sea-ice-type classification is estimated via...
